Finland Finland Finland

A couple of weeks ago I booked some flights for us to Finland in June! Ryanair had some deal where I managed to get "free" flights and pay for taxes only. Still pretty good considering we got 4 people on flights for less than £230. Why Finland? Well, Keir (and Salla and Lumi and Valo) invited us to their Juhannus party at their Lynx Forest cottage. According to my Lonely Planet book, it's an honour to be invited to someone's holiday cottage so we couldn't possibly not go. I know the word for Coffee (Kahvi)so I'm sorted. Strangely I also remember orange as it's like apple (applesiin). I can live off reindeer, oranges, and coffee for six days.

Now here is where I need some help. Their theme for this year is Rockstars! Who do you think Nik and I should go as? We might need to perform as well. Winning suggestion gets a nice souvenir from our trip.

Also, if you can suggest or make mini blackout eye masks for our children as the sun doesn't set until 11pm and then makes it's appearance again at 3:30am, then you shall get the grand prize.

Kalila picked up a huge bumble bee yesterday and said to Nik, "look daddy, I've got a bumble bee!" Nik gently helped her place it in a plant pot and told her she shouldn't pick them up. We'll see if she remembers this. And finally, Howard has figured out how to use the chicken ladder. That is all.

David Bowie and Bjork.

Not really. I think they might be fiercely proud of Bjork in the northerly climes and if you show up in a swandress, you'll get tossed into a hydrothermal spring.

However, I am going to have to request something souveneir-y because I've always wanted to visit.

Also, take a sauna if invited. You must. It's a big thing in central Wisconsin because of our heritage and it is lovely.

Yay for Howard!

You need to go as Lordi (but then I would say that, wouldn't I?). x

Or The Rasmus, I suppose, if you're not so keen on Lordi prosthetics (but it is cold up there so you might be grateful for them).

I'm so jealous you can probably see the green glow of envy from here. x

oh we will def take a sauna and of course I'll get you something from there!

K-I'm scared of Lordi and Rasmus. Any other suggestions?

The one thing that S and I have dreamed of building in our backyard since we met is a sauna. They're fab. Especially when you live somewhere that's cold and snowy.

Also?

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I want to be,
Pony trekking or camping,
Or just watching TV.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
It's the country for me.

You're so near to Russia,
So far from Japan,
Quite a long way from Cairo,
Lots of miles from Vietnam.

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I want to be,
Eating breakfast or dinner,
Or snack lunch in the hall.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

You're so sadly neglected
And often ignored,
A poor second to Belgium,
When going abroad.

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I quite want to be,
Your mountains so lofty,
Your treetops so tall.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I quite want to be,
Your mountains so lofty,
Your treetops so tall.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

Finland has it all.
