... on a journey through time and space
Through the world of The Mighty Boosh
Kalila's boosh remix
Come with us to the mighty boosh......to eat some yogurt.
classic.
And how, HOW could NME have a Christmas issue where you had to choose between a cover of Boosh and Kings of Leon? Oh the choices. Ooh, Uum, Eeeh.
Went with the Boosh in the end. Felt slightly guilty.

what dat kalila boo do
Kalila has had a vast array of vocabulary for quite a while but recently she has added some surprising phrases that I can't even guess where they came from...
"I'm a slug."
"Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Choo" (Each ah rises in pitch. She did this during Digi's Xmas performance and I'm sure it's on video)
"I like this place. This is a new place in the world." (referring to John Lewis department store when we went in through a different entrance)
"You can't eat that otherwise you will get hurt."
She also shapes her mouth into a comedic o shape and speaks silly talk. She's a right little performer sometimes. I can see drama in her future or directing or pig rearing (she loves her piggy my unny). Producing dramatic pig rearing documentaries? She can be a bossy boots sometimes. She made me walk through Cambridge christmas crowds singing monkey magic but ONLY after she counted 1-2-go.
Another interesting development is happening solely between Digi and Kalila. Digi was upset this morning and I couldn't figure out why. He got even more upset as Kalila was getting ready to go to school with Nik. He was so tearful for no apparent reason and I asked him if he was upset that Kalila was going to school. His tears came even harder and he said yes. I asked him why he was upset about that and he said, "because I want to play with Kalila". Awww poor sausage. I decided to get out of the house and do some errands with him and have coffee with Auntie Karen to tae his mind off things and he calmed down only to start welling up in the car. If you ever see the face Digi makes when he is trying not to cry but he is still very sad and on the brink of crying, it will melt your heart. I physically cannot restrain myself from making a sad face too. Now, fast forward to when we picked up Digi, messed about in the car for 20 minutes (they have different start/end times) and then took DIgi in. Digi happily went in and this time Kalila stood at the door, arms outstretched shouting "Digi Digi". Crying ensued.
They miss each other. That's good though.

It's buzzing all around us.
Kalila Boo had her first haircut last Thursday. I didn't really want to but tangles dictated the chop. She had a good two or three inches cut off and she was so happy to just sit there and eat her lolly. She was such a star.

She is loving her little school at the moment. She loves it so much that when Digi goes on Fridays, she cries because she wants to stay. I managed to snag the last place on a Friday so after Christmas she can join Digi in the mixed session and I will have a whole 4 hours to myself! When I say to myself, I really mean I will have a whole 4 hours to catch up on laundry and cleaning. Hopefully I will be able to fit in some yoga or something.
Last Friday we had Digi's first school disco. Nik was going to DJ but he was ill so I tentatively stepped up. It was a hoot. Not the deep or medium-pitched musical sound , often wavering or interrupted, more like an amusing situation. We had fun but I was tired. I worked the next day and although it was slow, it gave me time to experiment with new and old designs.

And finally onto my little Rudolph. He was in his first Christmas performance yesterday and I managed to not cry. It was so so sweet with more than a few giggles. Digi was quite shy throughout it but he sang all songs bar one.
It was recorded for those family and friends who missed it.

So it's all whisky a go go around here. There are even presents under the tree which the children haven't touched. If they were mine, I'd be poking them.

Cough hard 2
Nik has what I call a double cold. He had a cold and was getting better and now it has returned with a feckin vengeance. It's like the Bruce Willis of colds but with more hair and phlegm. I keep wafting the germs away from me each time he coughs but I don't think that will do much good. What I need is some sort of germ bazooka , cold-ex dynamite, or maybe a suit made out of titanium with pop up anti-germ shields.
I think I've been watching too much Batman and The Dark Night.
Needless to say I have now banned him from returning to work for the rest of the week. I'm hoping our weekend plans aren't scuppered.
This cold going around is a pain in the arseholio.
In other news, Digi's school sang for the old people in the oldies home next to their building. The oldies gave them each a giant tube of chocolate buttons. How very sweet.
In other other news, I've been working a lot recently and I found out yesterday that Marshalls Airport want me to come back for two jobs ,their centenary celebrations and their christmas party next year. I got some fab feedback from JezO and I'm feeling very positive about my face painting and how my little side business is going. I'm doing my first ever all day event on Saturday. I hope my hand doesn't fall off.
get some rest peeps. you don't want to catch cold.

3 short tales
Tale 1
It was a dark and stormy night. No, really it was. The phone rang. The incoming number was ours. Sigh...been there before when I freaked out because I thought someone was calling us from inside (yes I know it's not really possible but still!) I picked up the phone fully expecting the text voicemail. "You have one new voicemail", the nice lady stated. Slightly erie robot person says. "I'm here." Um. Ok. Cue me and kids puttingon our wellies and coats and going outside to check if anyone had arrived. Nobody there. Hmm. Not happy going back inside with scary robotic person saying, "I'm here." I tried calling the number back but it went straight to voicemail. I tried again and then again. Finally an answer! It was Lucie. I said to her something along the lines of, "Oh I'm so glad it's you. I'm standing outside quietly freaking because I got a text from you saying I'm here!" She probably assumed I was nutzoid but then she revealed that Grace had been playing with her phone and sent the same message to other people who became equally confused. I doubt any of stood outside the front of their house with widened eyes. In my defense, I'm not abnormally paranoid but we do live in a quiet little hamlet where people usually "keep themselves to themselves" (aka key words you hear on the 6 o'clock news when talking of serial killers) AND we have doors. Lots and lots of doors. and corridors. Lots of corridors.
Tale 2
Digi is obsessed with Dr Who despite only seeing maybe a handful of episodes with his daddy. Tonight he got a treat and so did Kalila. I used to worry that they'd get scared of the aliens and daleks and scary stuff but not a flinch. I guess we have already established me as the wimpy one when it comes to all things dark and bumps in the night. I can't even go into the hallway if we think one of the kids has gotten up. Nik says on the odd occasion Digi will get out of bed and go look out of the hallway windows at the stars. I think he is really listening to see if we are still awake or not so he can make his stealth move into our bed. The thought of turning the corner and seeing a child standing there in the dark just freaks me right out. Well, that is my excuse and I'm sticking to it. So anyway we explain to them that all of the stuff is pretend and they get it. So much so that tonight when the "last Dalek" said something like, "I am the last of the Daaahhh leeeekkkksss", Kalila courteously replied, "I am Kaalillllaaaa." Oh how we laughed.
Tale 3
I bought an Iphone. It's black. It's so purty. I haven't switched my old number over yet and I want to get it a protective clear case before I drop it like I do all my phones. I feel very protective. Am I turning into a boy?
The end.

little cool dood

From my friend's son Jack (he's seven)
Little cool dood!!! Little cool dood!!!
To kalila and diggy
and the one that doesn't photograph very well says:
Diggy your the best!!! Your kind ad help full
Hee hee. So sweet. Kalila's first day at pre school was ace. She walked straight in and played and painted and made crafts and sang songs. Wayne said we don't need to even stay the next time. There were about six other boys there. There are two other girls but they were out today. I'm so pleased she has the extra stimulation and I get some mummy and Digi time.
Keep Austin Weird.
We bought some flights to America last night! We're going in early January. Yippee.

Early Years
Today I got Digi's pre school early years foundation stage profile to look through. Basically it's records compiled by his key worker since the spring. It highlights some of his achievements against the key stage criteria and it was the most entertaining read I've had in ages. There are pages upon pages including photos. I am impressed.
Here are some favourite excerpts (Nana, you will love these):
( takes pleasure in gaining more complex skills) Indigo was excited and said he could ride the bike using one hand.
(demonstrates flexibilty and adapt behaviour to different events, social situations and changes in routine) Sylvie talked to the children about looking after their teeth. Indigo asked lots of questions and gave answers.
(enjoys joining in with family customs and routines) "Daddy goes to work in Cambourne. he goes to work to make money for my piggy and Kalila"
"Daddy mends mine and Kalila's toys. he said I can borrow his tape measure when I give it back"
(uses actions, sometimes with limited talk, that is largely concerned with the here and now) Putting stickers on his shoes because they are "falling to pieces"
(begins to use words instead of actions to rehearse, reorder, and reflect past experience, linking significant events from own experience and from stories, paying attention to how events lead to one another) Indigo said, "I've made dough balls. They're yummy. Pizza Express makes them. Dough balls come with butter then you dip them in. Dough balls come in mushroom, olive, and pepperoni. I like mushroom. Daddy likes mushrooms as well. Mummy likes olive and Kalila likes pepperoni, not olive and mushroom."
(hear and say the initial sound in words and know which letters represent some of the sounds) During registration, doing the letter T, Digi said "T, mummies name begins with T and M for mummy."
(know that information can be retrieved from books, newspapers, and computers) Newspaper covering table had picture of a post box. Indigo said, "does that say save our post office?"
(sometimes give meaning to marks as they draw and paint)" I painted a bunny with 9 toes."
(shows interest in the lives of familiar people) "mummy and daddy stayed in a hotel and they went in an aeroplane to fly to Mighty Boosh. It was in Brighton."
(Use time related words in conversation) "I've made a star. they come out at night with the moon and foxes."
(comment and ask questions about where they live and the natural environment) After making a rainbow in the sand with a comb Indigo said, " when it rains and a bit of sun comes out, you get a rainbow."
(are interested in others) "I went to see nana and momo in America"
I could go on and on and on. It's clear that he talks about his family a lot and he tells them pretty much everything we get up to! He really enjoys making things. He can count and knows all his colours and most letters. He shares and stands up for himself. He says sorry if he knocks a tower over that isn't his.
Tricia said to me the other day that they think he is going to be a creative engineer because he is always building and making things like video cameras etc. She said he was really good company and that he loved tape and hole punches and office paraphernalia.
Overall he is a pretty groovy little man and we're all lucky that he gets to spend time in an environment that nurtures him.
And if Kalila is well enough, she starts on Wednesday!
